About Darja

Darja Mlakar Maležič began her musical education at the age of nine by playing the piano, and later joined the cello. Upon enrolling at the Secondary School of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana, she decided to study the piano (Prof. Gita Mally), but her interest in other instruments remained - she won three first and one second prizes at competitions for chamber groups._cc781905-5cde -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_

Later, she decided to study at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, where she graduated with honors in 1999 in the class of prof. Dubravka Tomšič-Srebotnjak, and in 2002 from piano pedagogy. Already during her studies, as well as after, she had several solo and chamber concerts in Slovenia, Austria, Croatia and Italy. In addition to her studies, she received additional training at master classes with Jacob Lateiner, Martyn van den Hoek, Robert Ward and Arnulf von Arnim. In the 1999/2000 season, she was employed at SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana as a ballet accompanist and recorded the soundtrack for the ballet Zelena miza. As a pianist and harpsichordist, she worked with the RTV orchestra and the Camerata labacensis orchestra. She is a pianist in many children's opera performances (Humperdinck: Janko and Metka, Mozart: Bastien and Bastiena, Cui: Red Riding Hood).

She is currently an accompanist and piano teacher at the Secondary School of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana and at the Vič-Rudnik School of Music. He has been working with the soprano Katja Konvalinka for 10 years, and in 2005, together with the clarinetist Andrej Zupan, both of them founded a trio, with which they recorded their first CD Pastir na skala this year.
